My Doubting Heart

O God, I know that You're there.

That's why I am praying this prayer.

Every day, I see the sun rise.

Every day, You keep me alive.

I know these things could never be

Unless it was You giving life to me.

Why then do I doubt?

Why then am I afraid?

If I believe in Your reality,

I should never feel this way.

Please forgive my doubting heart;

Please help me grow in faith.

From You, O Lord, may I never part.

Cover me in grace.

God, I see You everywhere.

I see Your creative hand.

I see Your loving heart and mercy.

I see You as You help me to stand.

But sometimes I look with mortal eyes

Instead of eyes of faith,

And mortal eyes see only mortal things,

But You never change or pass away.

When I cannot see or feel You,

I wonder if You exist like I'd believed.

The God who is love and just

I forget with terrible speed.

Please forgive my doubting heart;

Please help me grow in faith.

From You, O Lord, may I never part.

Cover me in grace.

Worldly things tug at my mind and heart

As they try to steal me away.

But there is only One to whom I belong,

And in Him I place my faith.
